Infrared

...Not really (this is photoshopped), but I've been reading about IR photography and it seems like something I would be interested in. There are two options to get into it:

1. Get an IR filter to put in front of the lens, but you can't hand-hold the shots as they would take 3+ seconds (even minutes in some cases), plus for what I understand you can't see anything through the viewfinder with the filter on, so it would be difficult to compose the shots taking the filter on and off.

2. Modify the camera to take IR photos (or buy one that's already modified). Digital cameras have a filter in front of their sensor that blocks IR light so that photos look normal. What they do for converting it is they take that filter out, and replace it with a clear glass. You can hand-hold the shots with a modified camera like a regular photo, but the camera is only good for IR shots after it's converted.

I'm undecided if I want to get a filter, I don't think I'd use it much since I don't have the tripod with me that often. There is no way I'm having my camera converted, so the other option is to get a Point & Shoot and have it converted to play with it... In the meantime, I was playing with photoshop to simulate it and this is what I got.

I thought it was snow too. Well done!

I agree with you about what to do. I'd probably go with the filter and play with it occassionally although it sounds like a pain (I almost never use my tripod during the day). Converting a Point and shoot may be an option, but those camera are not that cheap either (and bad). I guessing the filter is expensive...

    --------

Lee, thank you! it does :-D

Tor, yes I almost never have my tripod during the day either. I' m pretty much decided to give the filter a try, the price depends on the size you need, and big ones are quite expensive (up to like $300 for a 77mm), I found a good 68mm I can use for around $50, so I'll probably give that a try. Even getting a point and shoot will be way more expensive.

    Mike, glad you do =)

Tim, haha, I wish! for now I think I'm gonna give the filter a try like I said above. Stay tuned! and thanks for the kind comment about my photos!
